The raccoon has a body length of 16-20 inches and a body weight of 8-20 pounds, grayish coat mostly consist of dense underfur which insulates against cold weather. Two of a raccoons most distinctive features are its extremely dexterous front paws and it’s facial mask, which are themes in the mythology of several Native American tribes. Raccoons are noted for their intelligence, with studies showing that they are able to remember the solution to tasks for up to three years.
Related females often share a common area, while unrelated males live together in groups of up to four animals to maintain their positions against foreign males during the mating season, and other potential invaders. After a gestation period of about 65 days, 2 to 5 young, known as “kits”, are born in spring. The “kits” are subsequently raised by their mother until dispersal in late fall. Although captive raccoons have been known to live over 20 years, their average life expectancy in the wild is only 1.8 to 3.1 years. In many areas, hunting and vehicular injury are the two most common causes of death.
Raccoons can carry rabies, a lethal disease, carried in the saliva and transmitted by bites. Its spread began in Florida and Georgia in the 1950’s and it was facilitated by the introduction of infected individuals to Virginia and North Dakota in the late 1970’s. Of the 6,400 documented rabies cases reported in the United States in 2014, 30.2% were in raccoons. The United States Department of Agriculture, as well as local authorities in United States and Canadian provinces developed oral vaccination programs to fight the spread of the disease in endangered populations.
If you have raccoons in the attic, please do not try to trap and remove them. Nine out of ten times, there’s baby raccoons up there. If you trap and remove the mother, you will have a big problem on your hands, and will likely cause further house damage, noise, suffering of the raccoons, and a terrible odor as the babies die and decompose. Our wildlife specialist will inspect your home and determine a course of action. Most likely it will involve humanely trapping the raccoon, or physically removal of the animal. Once this is done, we recommend repairing the hole.
I have had nothing but good experiences with EPM since I’ve met Karen. As a property manager I wouldn’t go with any other pest control company, and now that I have used them on a personal level. I feel even more sure that you’re the best choice! I appreciate the quality of customer service both from Karen, Margie, and from the technician himself Nick. I hope you continue to do well. I will continue to recommend you!
We used Environmental Pest Management a couple of times for bed bug treatment of a rental property and for a simple pest inspection. They are easy to work with, you can schedule appointments by email, and the always performed an excellent service. I definitely will use them in the future!
I have been using Environmental Pest Management for the past 3 years at several properties. They are professional, and offer great customer service. I love their comprehensive tracking and reporting which is accessible on a user-friendly website. It’s a life saver for property management! They are the best!
Professional, quick response, knowledgeable, respectful of property, will contact again.
I have been using Environmental Pest Control for 6 years I. Bexley. I’ve never had any problems with mice or insects because they’re thorough. I recently purchased a new home in Worthington and the prior owner still had 6 months of their contract left with another green insect company. The service was horrible, I had insects getting into the home, etc. I cancelled that service and went back to Environmental Pest Control and of course have had no issues with any pests. Glad to have them back!
I have been using them for a few years. Always nice and informative. If bugs come back they come back.
We’ve been very pleased with the service we’ve received from EPM. The technicians are friendly, professional and knowledgeable, and they will readily take time to explain the likely cause of an infestation and offer helpful tips on how to prevent a recurrence. For more difficult problems, they will continue to troubleshoot throughout the process and fine tune their treatment methods until the problem is completely gone. They support their treatment plans with a warranty of service, but we’ve never needed to exercise the warranty. The office staff is friendly and courteous, they always answer the phone, and they efficiently schedule our treatment on the first call. They also call with a courtesy reminder the day before our regularly scheduled preventive treatment. If the technician is delayed at another property, the staff will provide a status update so we know when to expect the technician. We very much feel that EPM treats our relationship as a partnership to prevent pest issues in our property. We enjoy the peace of mind EPM has given us as our pest control provider and would readily recommend them to other property managers…
No suggestions at this time. Just wanted to say your technicians are really nice, thoughtful and informative. Thank you for your service to Mackinaw and Westwood Senior Apartments…
Kyle was on time, courteous, professional, thorough and competent!

Thank you so much for the professionalism!
We recently moved into a new office and this was our first experience with Environmental Pest Management. The technician were friendly, professional, and explained what he saw and didn’t see to make sure we understood what he was recommending and why.
We use EPM at work, and I use them in my home. They’ve always been fast to respond, effective, and super nice!
