The good news is that you can keep that from happening! The first step you can take is minimizing any outdoor clutter. Next, look around the outside of the home for possible entry points. Keep in mind that it is much easier for mice to crawl up textured brick than smooth siding which means any entry points near the roof are going to be more accessible to them. In addition to around the roof, you should be checking around windows, doors, the foundation and around holes for plumbing, electrical and gas lines.

Rodents can squeeze into holes the size of a nickel. Once you have scoped out all possible entry points, you can plug them with steel wool and caulk.
