EPM Gives Back | Gift of Warmth

EPM Gives Back | Gift of Warmth

It’s the most wonderful time of the year for many but can also feel like the most stressful time as well! Sometimes it’s important to take a step back and put your stresses into perspective. Spoiling friends and family with gifts can be fun! However, giving something simple to a stranger in desperate need is truly the best gift that you can give. A little bit of effort can go a long way when it comes to helping the less fortunate. This year instead of an office gift exchange,  Environmental Pest Management partnered with Volunteers of America to participate in their “Gift of Warmth” campaign. The goal is to gather donations of new hats, gloves, scarves, and socks to provide for the homeless during the coldest months of the year.

Homelessness Statistics

According to the United States Interagency Council on Homelessness, Ohio currently has a homeless population of over 10,000. Among Ohio’s homeless population are over 800 veterans and over 1000 family households. January is Ohio’s coldest month with the average low being 23 degrees. With those statistics, it is sad to realize that there are people without a roof over their head who do not even have proper clothing to keep warm. As little as a dollar or two can mean a new pair of gloves or a hat for a homeless person.

Making a Difference

The staff at Environmental Pest Management is proud to have gathered 24 pairs of socks, 5 pairs of gloves, 2 scarves, 10 hats and $90 cash to purchase additional winter clothing needs for the homeless. Giving back is so easy and can make such a positive impact on another person’s quality of life. Volunteers of America offers many easy ways to help those in need. “Never underestimate what a simple gesture can do. It is the little things that you do that make a big difference in other people’s lives.” – Catherine Pulsifer
